The Trip That Almost Wasn't

For Memorial Day weekend Tom and I decided to go to Idaho to visit his parents. I took a few days off of work to make the trip. We left on a Thursday afternoon. We had quite the time getting there but we made it and had a great time.

First we encountered snow going over the pass. It was lovely.

Then Tom noticed something wasn't right with the car. He pulled over and we had a flat tire.

The tire was really bad and couldn't be fixed. Because of various reasons we had to stay the night in Reno and get a rental car to continue our journey.
While we were in Idaho, Tom turned 60. His mom made him a lemon meringue pie to celebrate the occasion. I was surprise Tom let us have any.

The next day we went to his brother Jon's house for dinner. It was wonderful. Jon and Marilyn know how to feed people. This is the cake his mom bought for him.

While we were there we went to Shoshone Falls. It was beautiful.

Then we went to Rupert where Tom's 3 babies are buried.

When we got back to Reno on Tuesday, our car was ready and as good as new.

Our return trip to Boise was via Norland/Kimama (we stopped at the Norland Store for a soda and visit with the local Mexicans) and out across the desert to Bliss - back in the day before all of the johnny come latelies were out on the northside we would visit the Norland Cafe once in a blue moon for a fat hamburger and fries - I can taste it now. Not much is said anymore about those days - someday I might write a book - I'm sure most of you would be bored by it.

There were sure some things in the way of your trip...but you made it! How sweet you have the 3 graves on your blog...where you can keep them forever. What hard times Tom went through before finding you.

It's nice to see someone else likes lemon meringue pie---my dad could eat that 3 times a day, I bet!

Well, I'm glad that you made it and have the pictures to remember the trip by!

Seeing those headstones made me so sad for him. I'm sure it is hard for him to see them and doesn't get easier. He's lucky to have you there with him :)

Oh wow! Although there was a little bump in the road, it looks like you had a nice getaway. And just like another blogger stated, he will see his babies again one day.
